Today I did something naughty

I had meetings in town today including a visit to TalkSport for an interview with Hawksbeee and Jacobs, plus a trip to the Groucho Club in the West End, then Tottenham Court Road and then a train journey from Waterloo. As I’ve piled on the weight writing the book, I though I could do with some exercise and walked between meetings.

I managed to wander into five bookshops on the way, just to see if they had my book. Where I found it I turned it round to face the front.

In Waterstones in Piccadilly, which has always been one of my favourite bookshops, I put it in front of the Paul Merson autobiography. Sorry Merse, but there were loads of yours facing outwards, so I don’t think it will affect your sales. Continue reading →

Read an exclusive chapter on KUMB.com

When I lost my job as West Ham announcer back in 2008, it was heartwarming to read the messages on the fan sites calling for my reinstatement. I would often read the forum on Knees Up Mother Brown and be touched by people’s comments. I’m sure that led to my return to the announcer’s mike in 2009. To thank Graeme and Gordon and the rest of the KUMB guys I’ve given them an exclusive chapter of the book which you can read here.  It’s about whether the correct nickname for West Ham United is ‘The Hammers’ or ‘The Irons’. There’s a free chapter on this site about how I became the announcer. And a bizarre fireside video of me reading Roald Dahl style about Betty the Tea Lady who wouldn’t give chocolate biscuits to referee Graham Poll.

Sports Book of the Year Entry

I’m delighted that the team at Biteback Publishing have decided to enter my book for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award. It’s the Booker Prize of the sports writing world. Of course that doesn’t mean it’s any good, anyone can enter X Factor without any singing ability. But after a year writing the book and wondering if anyone would read it at all, it’s heart warming to know that the publishers like it enough to put it forward.

Announcer’s voice – ‘Will the stadium manager please note, Jeremy is over the moon!’
